Slag Flow in the Packed Bed With Varied Properties and Bed Conditions: Numerical Investigation

Molten slag, which is primarily generated in the blast furnace (BF) cohesive zone, trickles down through coke packed bed form of films, rivulets, or droplets lower zone BF. During its downward flow, there are significant interactions occurring between slag and other phases such as gas, particles, hot metal, fine powders. In terms these interactions, flow behavior can greatly affect BF productivity be associated with irregularities channeling, hanging, slipping. Hence, understanding useful to maximizing efficiency operating cost, reliability, production capacity. current study, a Volume Fluid (VOF) modeling technique was applied track movement individual at mesoscopic level, considering various permeabilities, more wide-ranging properties, different wettability packing particles. Results demonstrate role level macroscopic behavior. Modeling work helps visualize trickling realistic complex conditions representing BF, clarify mechanisms patterns for variations conditions. Transient characteristics localized accumulation droplet morphology were identified analyzed relation condition changes. The proved valuable tool provide foundation better zone.
